Renovation, Part 2: Framing

Who knew a lumbar delivery would be so exciting?
Watch our 2 story addition grow from the ground up!

Unfortunately we had a LOT of rain from those darned April showers which slowed things down just a little bit.  And then they had to undo the 1st floor roof line because they realized the pitch was all wrong (something I had noted right away), but they got it right the second time around.

Renovation, Part 1: Foundation

There wasn't much demolition to do outside aside from knocking down the deck and pergola (under which was a concrete slab from an old screened in porch), and the crews got right to work digging our new foundation.  Even the snow we had in March didn't stop them!

They made quick work of it, and a major disaster area in our yard.

In a matter of days it went from footings, to insulation, to poured concrete walls, gravel, vapor barrier, re-bar, and a beautiful new slab!

Joseph's flag football team, the Browns, won the championship this season!  The team he played on last year didn't even win one game.  Joseph's efforts probably didn't contribute much to their victory, but he loves being part of this team and the coaches are inspiring him to do more and more.

It was a well matched championship game, and the kids put their hearts and souls into it.  So proud of them!

On the subject of championships, our friend Shami had a few last minute box tickets available to the Wizards/Celtics playoff game, so Brent and Joseph got to go.  It was a phenomenal game and the Wizards won in the last few seconds! So exciting for them to be there.

Livin' La Vida Loca

I had no idea my friend Missy was SO obsessed with Ricky Martin.  I mean, I get it, he is one of the most beautiful and talented men out there, but she wanted to see him in concert for the THIRD time this year and couldn't find anyone else to go with her, so I gladly obliged.  It was our first time at the new MGM Grand Casino at National Harbor, which is pretty impressive. We had dinner at Marcus and found rainbows for Ricky outside before we headed #ALLin for the concert - 8th row!  That man can definitely still shake his bon-bon!

One Fish, Two Fish

For whatever reason, I decided I needed to learn how to cross-stitch this year.  Maybe I knew I wouldn't be able to quilt or bake for months during our renovation and I'd need something to keep me busy.  I bought this little kit for $1 at the craft store a year or two ago, but no time like the present!

What a great time to run out of blue thread, with only 4 rows left!  Luckily I had bought 2 kits, so I was able to finish this up without worrying about finding new thread to match.

I found a blue that was pretty darn close, so I used that and made the 2nd kit as well.  I think I bought two because I'm a Pisces, and that's my sign, two fish swimming in opposite directions.  One of our traits is that we're creative, go figure!

One fish, two fish, cross-stitch goldfish!
