Bunny Business

Our Easter was pretty low key this year.  I had to switch weekends and be on call so we could travel for Spring Break this week.  Grammy and Grandpa came last weekend with a basket the Easter Bunny specially delivered to NJ in advance, which included Jenga - an immediate hit!

We dyed eggs on our own this year since the neighbors we usually do it with were already out of town.  It's pretty quick work when you don't have to share.

The Bunny brought another basket to our house Easter Sunday, which included the sunglasses Joseph wanted for our trip to Florida.  Later on we got to thank him personally over brunch at Tower Oaks.

Will Bike For Blossoms

It's everyone's favorite time of year in DC, when all the cherry blossom trees around the Tidal Basin are in bloom!  This year they peaked so much earlier than expected due to some unusually warmer weather.  We had to miss them last year due to our Spring Break travel plans, and had they peaked when predicted, the same would have happened this year too.

Knowing how horrible traffic can be, I thought I'd try biking downtown this year, and it was awesome!  I figured it would also be a good workout instead of my usual trip to the gym after dropping JT off at school.  I got rock star parking where the Capital Crescent Trail ends near Georgetown and set out on 2 wheels from there.  The weather couldn't have been more cooperative.  It was a gorgeous route along the Potomac River and I was among the mass of tourists in only minutes.  I really hope we can do this as a family next year!

Here's a few of my favorite pictures with a little help from some Instagram filters.

Turns out there wasn't much exercise involved in my outing, so I threw in a little run along the Georgetown waterfront before heading back home.  Something I've always wanted to do!  It's just about a 5K from the Key Bridge to the Memorial Bridge and back.  I wish I could figure out a way to run just one way and have someone pick me up and drive me home at the end :)

Cupcakes for Papa

Brent requested coconut cupcakes for his birthday this year.  I finally broke out the Cupcake Diaries, the cookbook from our local phenomenon, Georgetown Cupcakes, and gave their version a go instead of the recipe I usually use from the Barefoot Contessa.  I baked the cupcakes in the morning, and then Joseph pretty much took care of the frosting and decorating on his own after school.

Let me tell you, these cupcakes are phenomenal!

Looking great at 48!
Happy Birthday, Brent!

Now please excuse me while I go try out every other recipe from this book!  Had he not been specific about what he wanted, I would have chosen the Salted Caramel cupcakes.  Or Cookies & Cream.  Or Thin Mint.  Or maybe Cherry Blossom would have been appropriate!  So many cupcakes, so little time.

Scrambling for Eggs

Aunt Missy's annual Estabrook Easter Egg Hunt!  Now with a whopping 800 eggs!

Brought to you as always by our lovely hosts, Mr. & Mrs. E. Bunny Estabrook.  Grammy found Mr. Bunny charming, and I couldn't resist a selfie with him too.

Ready to roll!

The kids assembled quickly for a picture once they heard a special treat was on the way - cake pops in three different flavors!

Some-bunny had a great time as always, and scored a golden egg as well!

A visit from my parents and a day of watching a good friend's son while she recovered from back surgery called for an outing to the Renwick Gallery for everyone to see the Wonder exhibit last weekend.  It was a very different experience taking it in on a weekend with thousands of other people compared to when I saw it on my own on a weekday afternoon.  Despite the crowds and dreary weather, everyone was amazed with the artwork, and I loved being able to see it all again.

I loved this sign on the walls that I hadn't noticed last time!  Nolan and Joseph were particularly amazed by the naked lady statue LOL!
