Last weekend was Gay Pride in DC. Even though we brought Joseph to the Pride street festival in 2008 and 2009, we haven't been back in years, nor have we been to an actual Pride parade in about a decade, and never with a kid along for the ride. But when an old friend invited us over to his new house, which is 1/2 a block from the new parade route, we decided it was time to go be proud again.
We weren't sure how appropriate some of the sights would be for the little guy, but all it took was for someone to throw him some beads and he was hooked. I guess nothing really surprises you after you've been to Mardi Gras a few times. He was hooting and waving and high-fiving almost every single person that marched on by. Who knows, maybe one day he'll even want to march along with the Kaiser Permanente Diversity group.
Now, I thought long and hard about whether or not to post some seriously questionable pictures from the parade. Joseph did not seem phased at all by men in leather or a float full of go-go boys, and it was hysterical to see him screaming at them to throw him some candy or beads, but no.....i think they are just not appropriate to share here. My mother reads my blog, after all. So instead, us and our friends (and can you see Joseph will not even look at the camera, he is too busy waving at the parade?!).
