Destination Playdates

Now that it's too cold to play outside Missy has been coming up with some great ideas for destination playdates instead of just hanging out in our living rooms. We're off this week, which finally gives me a chance to post about last week when we met up at the US Botanical Gardens to catch the beloved annual train display.

I'm always surprised at how many people have never been there or even heard of it. It's just a block from the Capitol.

They changed up the theme this year and brought us on an around the world adventure. The railway visited many wonders of the ancient world - all made entirely of plant materials. We saw the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids, and much more.

But wait, who's that under the Eiffel Tower?

Why, it's THOMAS! Pulling Annie and Clarabel!
And he brought along his best friend Percy too! What an amazing addition this year for our die-hard Thomas fans. The boys were riveted!

We mostly saw the backs of their heads as they stared in awe, but we got them to line up for a rare second.

Missy meanwhile was determined to catch Will on video walking, and followed him around like this the whole time. Finally got some pretty good footage to post on her blog.

The day was almost perfect. On the way to the door to head home Joseph slipped at fell full body into a puddle in the gardens and was soaked from shoe to waist. And wouldn't you know it was just about the 1st time ever than I went out without a change of clothes for him? So I spent 15 minutes desperately trying to dry his clothes under the bathroom hand dryer before heading out into 30 degree weather for the walk to the Metro.

Didn't phase him one bit, and we made it home safe and sound, already thinking about the adventures that lay ahead.
