Still tons of snow on the ground (and we're supposed to be getting more soon!), but when we went on a walk today, Joseph had to have his lawnmower. He'll push that thing for a mile if you let him.

Are you ready for some football?

So many people take one look at Joseph and say the same thing: football scholarship. Well, not based on these clips. As far as I know, there's no sitting involved in the sport, and I think they discourage the players from just walking off the field when they get bored.

Special Education

We are proud to announce that our special boy received his very first letter of acceptance into preschool today. The road to higher education has begun, and there's no stopping him now!

Rubber Ducky, you're the one

I was asked if I'd be willing to make a cake for a baby shower at Brent's office. Of course I agreed! (Of course I knew Brent already told them I would do it before he even asked me.)

It was for a baby boy, and the design was completely up to me. The mommy-to-be requested a coconut cake with cream cheese frosting. I hadn't worked with fondant in a while (I think Jack's christening was the last time...), so I decided to take a stab at it again. Much harder than I remember!! But in the end I even surprised myself with how cute it turned out. Practicing with Play-Do helped a lot.

Congratulations, Lila! And my apologies - Brent told me the cake was for 8 people, not the 30 that showed up, or I would have made a bigger cake. And then I might have gotten a piece too.

Life worth Living

It's not often that Brent will yell at me from across the house to come quickly, and even rarer for him to tell me to bring the camera. So I did as requested.

I'm destined to meet Martha Stewart one way or another.

Sweets for our Sweethearts

We spent a LOT of time indoors recently with these snowstorms, so I utilized our time well and we baked, baked, baked. As I've said before, all I have to yell out is "Do you want to mix?" and he comes running to the kitchen. We continue to work on perfecting the cake ball.

It's been ages since we made my mom's Italian ricotta cookies. Always a HUGE hit. So moist! You also can't go wrong with sugary frosting and sprinkles.

I'm a sucker for decorated sugar cookies, but time and patience wore thin, so instead of elaborate frosting, we just did all Joseph's friends/sweethearts names.

The plan was to make cookie plates to deliver to our friends, but today we decided it would be more fun to have everyone over for milk and cookies after lunch. So we set out a table full of treats.

It sure was hard to wait for the guests to arrive.

Ethan is a master baller. He made every shot from everywhere!

Benjamin and Joe Joe hugged it out many, many times.

Cake balls were not really meant to be consumed in one bite.

Joseph's piping skills are amazing!

I love you too, honey!
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

The OK Corral

All this time indoors has given us the chance to finally install the bed guardrails that we ordered from Pottery Barn Kids recently. We figured there was no point in getting a rail for the crib when he would just climb out and play in the big bed.

Kinda looks like prison, but Peter Rabbit and a sippy cup of milk always make everything right in the world.

He's been napping in the big boy bed for 6 days in a row now! Not sure if we're ready for nighttime yet.

This is getting ridiculous - another FOOT of snow today!!

We still had mounds of snow everywhere, our street still hasn't been plowed, the mail and newspapers haven't been delivered in days, and our house was already a veritable ice castle.

Just to remind you what the view out looked like for the past 2 or 3 days, compared to what it looks like today:

Those are new icicles in today's pic - we had knocked all the old ones down for the kids to play with. No sign that a path had ever been shoveled there. Is it any wonder both of our offices shut down for the day? Not a single store is open anywhere, and not a sole is outside. Way too windy and cold this time around to play out there.

Brent was officially stir crazy after an hour. Joseph and I had many things to do to keep busy. He loves to paint.

In other worldly news, our boy pooped on the potty for the very 1st time today! I'm sure he'll be thrilled we broadcast this info.

Puppy Love

You've all seen Baby Brother by now, but now it's time to meet Baby Puppy and Baby Doggy too. Back when we were toying around with the idea of getting Joseph a doll, we improvised for a while and used Baby Puppy as a stand in to see if he was even interested. He fell for it right away, so the search for a boy doll commenced. (Do you have any idea how hard that was to find? Even online, they're all pink!)

Baby Puppy (left) was one of the many, many stuffed animals Joseph has received as gifts along the way, and they've all been in an open bin at (his) eye level forever. He was just never interested in them. But one day recently he "discovered" they were all there, and now a new one is constantly becoming his new best friend. Baby Doggy (right) and Baby Puppy especially like to talk to each other.

Today he has befriended Baby Elephant. I claim responsibility for the name "Baby Puppy," but Joseph has been responsible for all the rest. So far, only Curious George has not had "Baby" inserted on the front end.

Storm Story (continued!)

By early Saturday evening, when the snow finally stopped falling, this was how much piled up on our roof:

This is the view from the window looking out:

And then, after all that shoveling, the snow cascaded down in an avalanche and covered up the path again. Bummer.

We started to work on digging out the cars, and then thought, "WHY?" There's no way we're going anywhere!

So we ditched the work and had some fun with the kids. Yeah, that's the middle of our street. Our cars probably aren't moving for some time...

Brent finally got his wish, someone to pull him. Speaking of going nowhere... Wish I could have helped, but someone had to man the camera.

And then, the glorious, peaceful morning after (at this point now known as "The Day The Saints Won The Super Bowl").

Those were some serious icicles hanging down right in front of our door. The kids thought they were coolest thing ever, and had to have them. And eat them.

We did eventually get those cars dug out, but they still haven't plowed our street as of Monday afternoon! Brent got his SUV out this morning, but he said it was a white knuckle drive to get to a main road and almost got stuck a few times. I had to take the day off from work because there's no way my car would make it out, and no way our nanny could make it in.

One of my favorite moments - introducing Joseph to the concept of snow angels:

Simon had the right idea all along:

But then again, cats don't really go stir crazy, do they?
