It's gonna be a bumpy ride

We're off on a road trip to the Hudson Valley, and then on to Lake George, NY. We're excited to see family and new places, but a little concerned about how this is gonna go. Especially because we've been struggling with some new sleep issues, including the fact that Joseph's naps have been dwindling, and he completely skipped his nap for the 1st time ever today. Challenging, to say the least. Wish our trip could be as fun as this:

We'll fill you in when we get back. No internet access for a week!

The Last Hurrah

Today was our last official play date with Jack :(

Sure, we'll still see him plenty, but pretty much on the fly, and soon enough with a baby brother in tow. We had to hit that water park one last time before the season ends!

There were some other kids from Missy's mommy group there too, and the boys were both out for Sabrina's attention.

Jack will never wear a hat and Joe will never wear sunglasses, but today Joe thought it was fun to swap.

We went ahead and signed up for music class on Thursdays now to keep us busy and keep our minds off missing Jack. Preschool better be the bomb, buddy. You can always quit, and we'll be here for you!

1. Very cool wireless technology.
2. Very gross toddler dentition after eating birthday cake.

They really are blue (and gross). Be grateful there's not a close up!!
Happy 2nd birthday, Patrick!

Spread the wealth

Jack's been kind enough to show us some pretty cool places to play along the way, so in return, for our play date today, we introduced him to our new favorite hangout, the Wilson Aquatic Center. We really should be getting royalties for plugging it on our blog so often recently. We were only able to get this quick snapshot before being admonished for taking pictures, even though it's a public place. Weird, like not being allowed to take pictures at the beach...

The boys had a great time, and we all got a good workout, especially since we had to chase them down every time they tried to run away and jump in the big pools alone. We thought it was worth asking the lifeguard if we could take some pictures when the pool had pretty much emptied out for lunch, and he couldn't have cared less. Seems like they're making up some rules on the fly.

How cute are these two?!?! We are so bummed that Jack starts preschool in a few weeks, and we'll be getting together a little less regularly. We're just having as much fun as we can for now!

Blazing Saddles

For lack of anything better to do, JT and I headed out to Clemyjontri Park yesterday. We hadn't been in a few months, but did remember there were very few trees or shaded areas, so we tried to go early to beat the heat. No such luck - this place was smoking hot by 10am. Could be one reason why he hated the carousel (again...)

Last time we went the "maze" was closed for repairs. It's kinda fun, except for the running in the heat part.

We only stayed a little over an hour before needing to rehydrate and rest. We hit the new indoor pool later on in the day, which was much more relaxing.

Brusha, Brusha, Brusha

Why do they make kid-sized versions of grown-up things? They always want the real deal.

(Does anybody have that toothpaste jingle from "Grease" stuck in their head now?)

Turn Around Time

Yesterday we also went to story time at the public library. In between books they do songs, like this cute one called "Turn Around." Every week he does more of the things they say to do, but he always turns around for some reason. But we were all the way in the back this time, and he loves books so much that he kept getting distracted by them. I know he just wanted to tear them all off the shelves!

No doubt Joseph loves the water. Always has, and hopefully always will (especially since we just signed up for swimming lessons in the Fall again). So we were all excited to find out that the brand new Wilson Aquatic Center just opened. There are 4 different indoor pools, including a toddler pool with fountains. It's attached to Wilson High School, which is the public high school in our neighborhood, but it's run by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation. So it's technically a public pool, which means it's FREE, and it's open ALL day EVERY day, year round!

We're not quite ready for the olympic sized pool just yet, but we'll see if these swimming lessons pay off some day.

Welcome, Welcome!

They do this little welcome song at the start of Gymboree class. This is how Joe Joe gets into it. Keep in mind there are actually 6 other kids in the class too - completely not interested.

Monkey Business

While Jack's away, Joseph still has to play. Since we hadn't been in a while, I took him to the zoo yesterday morning. Everything was new and exciting, but we both especially enjoyed the Ape House. All the chimps, gorillas, and orangutans were very active and social, and we even saw the sweet little baby monkey.

Joseph loved the Invertebrate House too - basically a mini aquarium. We missed the giant octopus feeding, but we did get to the Elephant Trail right in time to see the baby elephant get his daily bath.

And no trip to our zoo would be complete without seeing our adorable pandas. The statues were the most cooperative for pictures.

3rd Run

Yes, we went to Cameron Run again.
No, you probably don't need to see anymore pictures of the same thing again.
But, this time Papa finally got to come along, so it's only fair we post some pictures of him enjoying our favorite hot spot.
Joseph's friend Ethan and his parents came too.

Don't know what it is about Mr. Steve that Joseph loves sooooo much. Maybe blondes do have more fun?

I just think this picture is funny! It took all day to get Ethan down that slide, and of course he absolutely loved it - you can see it on his face. Joseph loves it too, but his face is under water!

And this one is my favorite, forwarded from Missy. There was seriously something wrong with the curvy slide this day - everyone was either going at a snail's pace, or getting stuck, and had to push themselves the rest of the way down. But on my last run I not only got stuck, I created a major kid pile-up. If you look closely, there are THREE little ones running into me!
