Food & Whine

I think everyone out there knows that Joseph has a hearty appetite. But there are times when the actual eating part is.....challenging. The boy's got a good arm!

On the other hand, all you have to do is say the word "milk" and he comes running!

JT does not take this law seriously.

Mimi's Swim School

Mimi was just in town for a visit, and she made sure that her return flight yesterday didn't interfere with Joseph's Tuesday morning swim class. She's really the best swim teacher we know, but it would be hard to go to Louisiana for lessons every week, so we make due with what we've got here in town. The 2 of them were right at home in the pool together.

video

We usually start off class with a few songs to warm up. Mimi didn't quite know the routine!

video

Miss Tammy is all about teaching the kids to instinctively reach for the side of the pool in case they accidentally fall in, so she pushes them to the wall over and over. I hope he never really falls in, because he's more of a sinker!

video

I finally got to go in after getting enough footage of Joe Joe with Mimi.

video

We kept trying to show how much he loves to jump in the pool. I say "Ready, set..." and he usually dives in before I say "Go!" We should have tried to film this one in the beginning of class, because he wasn't really into it by the end. This was the best we got:

Birthday Boys

We celebrated 2 big boys' birthdays yesterday. Our friends' son Andrew turned 1!

Andrew got this great picnic table as a present from his grandparents, and Joseph cozied right up for his lunch the second we got there.

We also celebrated at night for another special guy with a different 1st birthday - Brent's forty1st. His birthday is actually today, but it would have been harder for us to have a big dinner and make a cake for a weeknight.

Happy Birthday Honey!!

water water EVERYWHERE!

Everybody's got "that thing" that they're paranoid about for no real reason at all. Since buying our house, mine has been the fear that we would have a flood that ruined all our stuff. (Of course, since becoming a parent, I have bigger and better things to worry about now.)

But today......

The toilet on the main floor overflowed and just kept running and running. And so the water flowed out into the study. And then leaked through the floors. And then gushed out through the light fixtures in the basement ceiling. And then there was the flood that I was always so paranoid about!

Luckily we were able to turn the water off and dry things up pretty quickly while waiting for the professionals to arrive. The water seeped through the floor before getting onto the rug or furniture in the study, and an amazingly well placed area rug in the basement pretty much soaked up all the water so that nothing else got wet. So the only real issue has been to dry out the ceiling and get the area rug professionally cleaned. It could have been SOOOO much worse!

We just have to live with all these fans and dehumidifiers for the next 5 days, and then assess the real damage.

And figure out where Mimi is going to sleep when she arrives tomorrow, since those 2 rooms are the only guest rooms.

Going Green

In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day we dressed in green today, and in the bigger picture of "going green," we played in the dirt and hugged some trees.

While outside we ran into our nanny, who also takes care of our neighbor's baby Benjamin. I think those boys are going to be good friends!

March Hare

The Easter Bunny was having a hard time waiting until April, so he (by way of Grammy and Grandpa) made a special early delivery this year for a very good little boy.

Joseph loved all the books and dvd's (Daddy requested no candy), but he was especially fond of the truck puzzle and this cup with his name on it.

And here he is loving his Italian Grammy, and a heel of Italian bread.

I won't quit my day job

Joseph has been needing a real haircut forever, but it just never seems to get done. I guess it's because we both want to be there for his 1st professional haircut (1 to hold him and 1 to take pictures), and that's hard to schedule. So every once in a while I get tired of the unruly blonde mop, and just have at it myself. Not bad, but I won't quit my day job just yet.

Zoo Zoom

I'm pretty sure this post will wrap up all the vacation pics, finally! We spent the last day of our trip in New Orleans, and did something that I've wanted to do for years now - see the Audubon Zoo. It oddly closes at 4pm, and since we got there at 3:15, we had to zoom through in record time.

Joseph was so obviously excited, pointing at squealing when he saw each new animal. This zoo is really amazing - the animals are so close you can almost touch them!

Mimi came with us and spent the night so we could go out to dinner alone and she could take us to the airport. Oh, and spend time with her grandson too!

Guess you can't go to a zoo in Louisiana and not see a pelican (the state bird) and some alligators.

Getting ready for bed so Daddy and Papa can go out.

So that's it! Hope you enjoyed all the photo's from Mardi Gras.

Birthday Bonus

It was enough for me to have a really great day yesterday - spent with Brent and Joseph, getting presents and calls from loved ones, my favorite cake, dinner out, and seeing close friends. But then I got to have another great day today too! Missy made a yummy brunch for me, and our boys got to play together (the little ones, and the big ones too) in amazing spring weather. And it was snowing just last week!

The pics of these bubbles are too cool. That's Uncle Mr. Matt, Jack's dad.

Jack is so verbal, he says "Jack's bubble juice" as he shoves his hand in the jug.

As expected, Joseph is learning about gardening from his Papa. Well, he mostly likes to pick up sticks, and at least he gave one of them to Papa.

We enjoyed the weekend as much as we possibly could. Winter weather is coming back this week.

Musical Interlude

This post is dedicated entirely to my best friend in the whole world, Lance, who is the absolute king of the obscure movie quote. Anyone know where it's from? Anyone?

That's the spirit!

Sherrie helped get us all in the Mardi Gras spirit on Fat Tuesday. She christened me with some "special" beads, some of which were a little bit questionable.

Click on the pic if you really want a close up on those beads.

Mom was also in the spirit. No doubt the gallon jug of frozen margaritas we brought helped us all.

Sherrie somehow managed to get my mom to do a Jello shot! Here she is yelling at Mary to "Suck it!"

I couldn't just let my mom do Jello shots alone.

Where the heck was my dad in all this?! He disappeared for a while, so here's a picture of him earlier with Joseph.

Go Gran - a beer and a Dr. Pepper!

Poppy really made sure all the boys were right up front at the parade and were catching lots of beads.

This is just one of my favorite pics from the trip, those handsome brothers.

This series is typical of the trip: trying to get 3 kids all to look at the camera at the same time with the grandparents. Even harder when Leyton turns in the other direction on purpose!

We bolted after the 1st parade. Someone needed their spirit recharged:
