Victory for LSU!

Again! The Tigers are 4-0 (so I'm told - only Brent and Joseph watched the game. I was probably quilting or baking...)

Joseph is finally fitting into some of the LSU clothes that Poppy sent him, so he's ready for game day.

Here's our boy showing some team spirit, trying to roar like Mike the tiger.

And here's our prince charming, in the adorable frog pj's Maia and Bill gave him (which happen to be the very first present he ever received, and is just now fitting in).

Joseph at 2 months

2 months have come and gone, and what do we have to show for it? Well, the most wonderful, adorable little boy, who just keeps getting bigger, sweeter, and cuter every day!

Special Delivery

Yesterday Joseph finally got a very special present that was ordered a long, long time ago - his crib. Look how excited he was!

He was so overwhelmed he just dropped off to sleep mid celebration.

Joseph, Daddy, and Papa all want to thank Mimi and Poppy, who sent him this wonderful and generous gift. It converts into a toddler bed, so he'll be having sweet dreams here for years to come.

The Changing of the Guards

I can't believe how fast 8 weeks has flown by! Tomorrow, my paternity leave is over, and I'm reluctantly going back to work. Brent is taking over for the next 8 weeks (or I'd be a train wreck. I may still have to drive home for lunch every day this week). But "changing of the guards" reminds me of Buckingham Palace in London, so here are some pictures from our trip there in March, to celebrate my 40th birthday. There was a life pre-Joseph, but I'd rather be at home with him tomorrow than go to Europe ever again.

(The above picture should be titled "Another reason for hauling a tripod around with you on vacation.")

(By the way, we WILL go to Europe again. He's just coming with us. And the tripod.)

Busy Bees

Wow, what an incredibly action packed Saturday we had! First up was Austin's 1st birthday party on our block. Then we introduced Joseph to our colleagues at the Georgetown Pediatric Residency Alumni Association picnic. And finally, Carl's office hosted the 3rd (and final!) baby shower for us. Whew!

The Alumni Association event was at a golf course and marina in Virginia. Joseph wasn't quite ready for the putt-putt course or the paddle boats this year, but he had an awful lot of pediatricians oohing and aahing over him.

We wanted JT dressed to impress. (Should we say "like Papa, like son?")

Vanessa, Carl's partner at work, was kind enough to host the shower at her house. She's a great cook - have you ever seen a bigger pan of paella?!

(We forgave Sharon for giving Joe his shots, and let her have some cake.)

Little Boy Blue

(I know it looks like I have a lot of time on my hands, but I swear, I just don't know where the day goes!)

Big girls don't cry

But little boys do.
JT went for a checkup last week (his "2 month", but he's really only 8 weeks). Nurse Sharon weighed and measured him - 13 pounds, 1 ounce, and 25 1/2 inches. She seemed really sweet....

but then she was mean and gave him FOUR shots! He actually did pretty well after the initial shock wore off.

Fashion Police

Is it a crime to mix stripes with plaids? He doesn't seem to care, and we're just glad he fits into real clothes now, instead of having to wear just a "onesie" every day. We're pleasantly surprised how many cute clothes there are for boys these days (and thank you all for sending them all to us!).

La Famiglia

Our family is so important to us, especially since we've started a little family of our own. We were so thrilled to have some family visit these past few days, Joseph's Great Aunt Anna Marie and Great Uncle Jimmy. They made the trek down from north Jersey, where Carl grew up. Not an easy journey, and we're touched they made such effort to meet our little Giuseppe.

We took Joe on his 1st sightseeing tour to Arlington National Cemetery, where the Bugaboo performed smashingly, all the way uphill to see the eternal flame at Kennedy's grave. He also watched about 1/2 of the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before needing to excuse himself for a snack. There's still so much more of DC to show him, so we need more visitors to get us out on the town again!

Practice what you preach

Brent and I are trying to be good "doctor-dads," by doing all the things with our son that we tell our patients' parents to do with their kids. So here's Joseph working the camera during his "tummy time," trying to master head and neck control. He sure looks like he loves it, but like most babies who we've gotten used to sleeping on their backs, he lasts for about a minute before screaming his head off!

Sweet and Sour

Although the creases in his little furrowed brow have become quite endearing when Joseph is feeling like a sourpuss,

we much prefer him when he's sweet like this. That smile is just about to break through any day now, and we can't wait!

15 minutes

Of fame? No! That's all Daddy really needs to take a shower and be presentable. Oh, if only it were that easy! On a rare day this is what it takes to get those 15 minutes - swaddled so the arm jerking doesn't startle him awake, centipede (thanks Lisa!) wrapped around him so he thinks he's being held, and pacifier in the mouth to soothe him (hey, the American Academy of Pediatrics DOES recommend using a paci to get them to sleep on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS). And that contraption in the right lower corner vibrates the whole bassinet and plays music.

Luckily he's usually much more cooperative!

It ain't easy being green

OK, maybe it's not the absolute cutest picture of Joseph in the world (though it's not bad), but I had to post it anyway. Take enough pictures, and you're bound to get one of him giving you the finger!

By the way, brought him to the doctor yesterday, and he was 12 pounds 6 ounces!

Pillow Talk

Who's ever going to be able to resist this handsome little guy? Well, maybe someone if he continues to burp the way he does now!

(Thanks Julie for the gorgeous embroidered pillow.)

Joe is REALLY getting tired of these photo shoots, but I promise, I got these 2 pics on the 1st try, and let him go to sleep.

The One

A few weeks ago we posted some of our favorite pictures of Joseph, but held back "The One" that we were using for our birth announcement. It's just occurring to us now that not everyone in the world got a birth announcement (though it feels like we licked a million envelopes), like the friends of friends who were forwarded the link to our blog. So here it is, the original that inspired us to do a photo announcement.......

......and the "photoshopped" version that made it to the card.

And so it begins.

LSU football season has begun. (Does that deserve an exclamation point? It does if you're in Brent's family!) Joseph got to sleep through most of the game while Brent and Olga cheered for the Tigers. Most of Joseph's LSU gear is a bit too big - the hat, the slippers, and all the onesies that Poppy (Brent's Dad) sent......but he'll grow into them as the season progresses. Carl is trying to learn the LSU fight song, since it seems to lull JT to sleep. Is that a bad sign?
